the process: work

The textile design process is a fun yet tedious road when you don't have the schooling and experience. The hardest part for me is the lack of resources and know-how, so I'm left with no choice but to develop the self-motivation and self-reliance necessary to proceed. Or shall I say stubbornness and determination. Not bad traits to develop, but it makes things take longer this way.

As I progress, I am pleased to discover how much I enjoy this part of the process, and how many of the artistic skills I love to use but haven't found time for, are being put to good use. For someone who loves to illustrate (I illustrated a children's' book many moons ago.), likes calligraphy and has much experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator++ (from my days as a Graphic Designer/Web Designer), this is really a dream come true. Who knew that this might be something I could be good at? I don't know that I ever thought of Textile Design as a career option. This might end up becoming my new vocation. Who knows.

As this process evolves, I hope to gain the confidence, mentors and experience necessary to produce work at the level I desire. I guess we'll all have to wait and see...
